Crafted by Adolph Weinman in 1916, the Mercury dime, also referred to as the Winged Liberty Head dime, showcases an obverse design featuring Liberty with a leftward gaze, adorned with a winged Phrygian cap. Mistakenly associated with the Roman god Mercury due to its resemblance, the coin earned its colloquial name, the "Mercury" dime. Weinman's intention behind the winged cap was to symbolize the "liberty of thought," while the reverse of the coin portrays a fasces, a symbol of unity and strength, alongside an olive branch, representing peace.
